VIBE
Traditional British formal in a smaller hotel setting with lovely gardens. The formal dining room seems more suitable for a business lunch or dinner. The sitting room on the first floor is comfortable for a nightcap, but during the daytime and early evening it is filled with business suits. The later the evening gets, the more relaxed the lounge becomes.

WHY WE LIKE IT
The location is convenient (within a 10 minute walk to tourist favorite Buckingham Palace); the rooms are spacious and each is decorated slightly differently; and the sitting room in the lobby is relaxing during the later evening hours.
AMENITY WE LOVE
Beds were surprisingly comfortable–Westin dream beds, watch out! Sink into the couches in the bar for a quiet evening nightcap.
WHAT WE WOULD CHANGE
Our room details needed tweaking: lights in bathroom (brighter, please!) and the desk (one can’t sit at the desk properly–chairs are too high!). Competent service could be a touch less stuffy. (That said, one of our readers reported in that the staff always make her feel “at home,” even whipping up a much-needed late night burger upon request.)
GOOD TO KNOW
First hotel in the world to have private bathrooms and central heating in every bedroom. Many claim (especially bath enthusiasts) that Room 114 is the best in the house, for its whirlpool tub under an octagonal cupola.
