VIBE
Eclectic museum in the home of Sir John Soane, architect of the Bank of England. The eccentric gentleman created a home that has special touches, such as the hinged portraits and basement Monk’s parlor (where, with a sense of irony, he would invite guests for a drink with this imaginary friend of his). On a more serious note, guests can see a range of architectural plans for London, including many that never came to fruition.

WHY WE LIKE IT
Little kooky touches everywhere, like the dog tombstone and Monk’s parlor.
WHAT WE WOULD CHANGE
Entrance. Everyone has to check his or her bags (including handbags) in the small foyer.
GOOD TO KNOW
Last intake is at 4:30pm. There is a special candlelit opening on the first Tues. evening of each month, 6:00-9:00pm, with a last entry at 8:30pm. Don’t bring anything you wouldn’t feel comfortable checking at the door.
