VIBE

A beautiful 17th Century Cathedral in the financial district, made more special by its historic significance as a site of important British ceremonies. It can feel a bit touristy (and less religious than one might hope) as a top stop on most visitors’ lists.

GO HERE WITH

Anyone, but best to bring a companion who is willing to climb to the long, windy geometric staircase to the dome.

WHY WE LIKE IT

The 360-degree view of London at the top of the Dome is breathtaking, and it's fun to stand at the site of Lady Di and Charles’ historic nuptials.

WHAT WE WOULD CHANGE

GBP 12.50 sightseeing fee feels a bit steep, especially in a city known for its free museums.

GOOD TO KNOW

No sightseeing Sunday. Filming and photography is not allowed inside the Cathedral. Entrance tickets can be purchased online ahead of time for a small discount per person. A tour of the Cathedral and Crypt (in English only) lasts 90 min. and begins at 10:45am, 11:15am, 1:30am, and 2:00pm for GBP 3 for adults and GBP 1 for children. Audio tours of the Cathedral and Crypt last 45 min. and are available 9:00am-3:30pm in multiple languages for GBP 4. The Triforium Tour is also available and includes a glimpse of the library, the famous geometrical staircase (leading to the Dome), and the Trophy Room, where Wren's Great Model, based on an early plan for the Cathedral in the form of a Greek cross, is on display. These tours are available on Mondays and Tuesdays at 11:30am and 2:00pm, and Friday afternoons at 2:00pm, but a minimum of 5 people must be present. Other times may be available for the Triforium tour by prior arrangement (without a visit to the library).
