    VIBE

Brilliant contemporary works of art housed in an equally impressive building. The cool industrial space was once the Bankside Power Station, so Tate has a huge, warehouse/factory-like feel with generous open areas.

    WHY WE LIKE IT

An amazing collection of contemporary art from the likes of Picasso, Giacometti, and Pollock. The museum overlooks the River Thames; take a walk across the river via the Millennium Bridge to St. Paul’s Cathedral.

    WHAT WE WOULD CHANGE

Nothing. The collection is world-renowned, and the space is fittingly cool, not surprising as Herzog & de Meuron (architects of Beijing’s Olympic stadium, the Bird’s Nest) designed the interior and exterior.

    GOOD TO KNOW

Evenings tend to be less crowded than daytime, and the Tour and Dinner Package on Friday nights is a great deal (GBP 39) with dinner in Café 2 after a 90-min. private tour (see website for details). Free, 45-min. tours highlighting different collections are given daily; no booking is required. The Tate Boat runs every 40 minutes during opening hours between Tate Britain and Tate Modern (Adults: GBP 5). Film screenings shown at museum; check website for information.

    CLOSEST COMPS
