Tranquil lakeside lounge in the lush, elegant surrounds of Ritan Park. The eye-catching space (not actually a boat, we hasten to add) is designed to look like an elaborately decorated Qing Dynasty pleasure craft floating among the lilies of Ritan’s goldfish pond–may sound kitsch, but it’s actually quite atmospheric. By day, you can sip tea on the deck and watch local fisherman as they try their luck in the pond, while by night, you can match a refined glass of wine or a cocktail with the sparkle of city lights in the distance and the smooth tones of alfresco live jazz.

WHY WE LIKE IT

It’s a charming retreat from the hustle and grime of Beijing’s busy streets. Perfect spot for a tall, cool glass of something restorative in the afternoon after hitting the shops or an atmospheric moonlight cocktail with your date du jour.

Since Stone Boat changed hands in 2009, the live music on weekends has largely petered out–a shame.
