VIBE
This towering hotel in the posh Wangfujing district offers sweeping views of the Forbidden City from its floor-to-ceiling windows. The “classic yet contemporary” design concept gives it a big business hotel feel, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. While the look may not be novel, state-of-the-art amenities like the excellent pool and spa (open late), fantastic service, and spacious rooms with comfy beds are certainly not to be sniffed at.

WHY WE LIKE IT
The views of the Forbidden City and the location (walking distance to Wangfujing and Forbidden City, easy subway access, and only short taxi from Central Business District) definitely win kudos. Also, with rates lower than the other luxury hotels in this area but amenities that are up to snuff (like the pool, spa, massive breakfast buffet, and fab service), The Regent is definitely a good value for the money.
AMENITY WE LOVE
The breakfast buffet, while a bit pricey, is excellent.
WHAT WE WOULD CHANGE
The in-house coffee shop is extremely overpriced–skip it for the Starbucks next door.
GOOD TO KNOW
Many rooms have floor-to-ceiling windows with great views. Even so, it’s definitely worth upgrading to Club–not only do you get free drinks all day and free happy hour in the evening, but as the Regent Club Lounge occupies the top three floors, you’ll get stunning panoramic views of the city as well. If you’re heading out sightseeing, have a chat with the concierge first–they will organize drivers for big trips like the Great Wall, and for shorter hops, they’ll talk you through all your transport options and even give you a pre-charged subway card should you decide to take the underground.
