    VIBE

At this swish duck restaurant in the elegant surrounds of the Grand Hyatt, a series of action-packed open show kitchens add sizzle and color to the otherwise restrained (yet ever-so-posh) contemporary décor of the dining room. A decadent foodie menu of Northern Chinese classics and the expansive wine cellar holdings (rare bottles hover in the RMB 24,000 range) keep big spenders happy. The duck is the centerpiece of the menu, but the other Northern Chinese classics on offer are equally impressive.

    CROWD

A very well-heeled set of expats from the top of the business and diplomatic food chains. Foodie tourists complete the mix.

    WHAT WE WOULD WEAR

It’s uppermost upscale casual–we’d go with a simple yet elegant dress and classic designer flats, though you could definitely get away with a more relaxed black-pants-and-chic-top look if you wanted to.

    WHY WE LIKE IT

It’s a best-of-both-worlds mix of swank Western décor and well-prepared Chinese classics. Great spot to impress the boss or the in-laws. The open kitchens also make for good entertainment while you wait for your food.

    WHAT WE WOULD CHANGE

It’s markedly pricey compared to other duck restaurants around town.

    GOOD TO KNOW

If you’d like to try their Peking duck, you need to place your order when you make your reservation. Unlike most restaurants in Beijing, they have a non-smoking section.
