    VIBE

With over 50 classes a week at a variety of levels and a sterling staff of expert teachers, Yoga Yard has been the city’s go-to spot for relaxing yoga retreats since it opened in 2002. Their top-floor nook is truly zen, with a peaceful, calming ambiance that immediately sweeps away the stress of Beijing’s mean streets. Bilingual staff and small class sizes keep sessions personal, relaxing, and constructive.

    WHY WE LIKE IT

The best spot in town for yoga. Most other yoga studios in Beijing are in noisy fitness centers, so Yoga Yard’s peaceful space is a relaxing treat–lovely to know we don’t have to walk past a hive of thrumming treadmills after our calming yoga session.

    WHAT WE WOULD CHANGE

They used to be housed in a Qing Dynasty courtyard–would be nice if they could go back to such an atmospheric spot. Their current digs in Sanlitun are nice enough, but a courtyard would be nicer…

    GOOD TO KNOW

They often offer special workshops with international yoga teachers. Also, their shop offers pricey but quality products if you’ve forgotten to bring your yoga mat or fave yoga pants. If you’re lucky, you'll hit one of their sales and score some great deals on these essentials. If you’re planning on dropping by frequently, consider picking up a four-class pass for RMB 380 or a one-month unlimited pass for RMB 1000. No pre-registration is required; all classes open to walk-ins. No mobile phones allowed in the classrooms.
