VIBE
The former "Riot Hyatt" of 1970s-rock-stars-throwing-TVs-out-of-windows fame went under the knife in late 2008 and reemerged, Hollywood-style, as an ultra-hip sexy young thing. Gone are the crumbling ‘60s amenities, cramped room structure, and even buttoned-up name. Now branded with new-age moniker Andaz (meaning "personal style" in Hindi...), kitted out with trendy open-plan rooms, and led by fun boutique-style service, the Hyatt has given this Sunset Strip classic an entirely of-the-moment feel, and it’s hot. That’s not to say that they’re burying the past: subtle tongue-in-cheek references to rock star tantrums are hidden all over the property, and the former balconies-cum-TV-launch-pads have been converted to plush sunrooms with stellar Strip views. Rockin’.

WHY WE LIKE IT
It’s always had a fantastic location, but since the renovation, it now also boasts cool design, hip vibes, super amenities, great service…awesome.
AMENITY WE LOVE
Rooftop pool–offers panoramic views of the city and (amazingly) never crowded. (The cabanas are pretty sweet.) Also, the soundproofing and blackout curtains in-room are much appreciated given the Sunset Boulevard location. Quirky quotes on the rooms’ windows are a cute touch.
WHAT WE WOULD CHANGE
The valet parking is over-the-top pricey (USD 28 when we were there), even for this part of town.
GOOD TO KNOW
Because they’re so hip, there’s no "check-in" at this hotel. Instead, you enjoy a complimentary drink in the "lounge" with an "Andaz host" (sort of like a concierge), who checks you in on a laptop and offers insider tips about LA. Don’t miss the complimentary snack and drink station in the lobby–they do free breakfast pastries in the morning, too. Also, when booking, ask for a private sunroom (separate in-your-room nook with lounge chair and small TV) with views of Hollywood Hills or Sunset Boulevard.
