Despite the mall setting and laidback vibes, this Nobu outpost still attracts the finest of Malibu’s glitterati to its power scene dining room and gleaming sushi bar. Décor is nothing to write home about, though fresh flowers, fine table settings, and slick friendly service smarten it up a bit. We opted for a spot on the covered terrace and actually found Nobu’s food is best enjoyed in a relaxed atmosphere.

Upscale mix of surfer-type Malibu regulars and “off duty” celebs looking for a break from the Hollywood scene.

Surprisingly casual. You could even get away with jeans, though we’d probably wear a cute sundress or skirt.

Don’t need to wriggle into a little black dress to enjoy Nobu’s divine sushi here.

The décor could use a bit more sparkle (but then again, the laidback setting is part of the draw).

GOOD TO KNOW

Quite a trek from downtown LA (though snaking up breathtaking Pacific Coast Highway isn't exactly a hardship). Also, if you can’t snag a table, you can enjoy the full menu at both the sushi bar and the bar; these seats are on a first come, first served basis.
