    VIBE

Step back in time at this diminutive family-run diner where the only seating is the chrome stools ringing the wide horseshoe counter, and where Cokes are served the old-fashioned way: poured into paper cones held in heavy silver holders. The sharp-tongued staff and original white-shingled exterior only add to the retro ambiance, though the heaving throngs of hungry diners pressed against the walls waiting to pounce on empty stools help keep you grounded in the 21st century.

    CROWD

Really mixed–local office types jockey with creative types from nearby studios, cool kids, and eager tourists for a spot at the counter.

    WHAT WE WOULD WEAR

Pretty much anything goes–we’d opt for jeans and a t-shirt.

    WHY WE LIKE IT

The classic diner feel is nifty, and the burgers and pie are genuinely worth-the-hype dreamy. Good spot for a late night snack with friends.

    WHAT WE WOULD CHANGE

Get rid of hungry crowds lined up along the back wall watching you eat. Too much pressure!

    GOOD TO KNOW

If you want to beat the rush, avoid peak meal times and instead come for an afternoon or late night snack. Definitely don’t come here with a big group (seating is way too limited), and bring cash because they don’t accept anything else. If you want to make a day of it, The Apple Pan is across the street from the Westside Pavilion mall.
