    VIBE

The meat of the Universal Studios “experience” is the tour, a one-hour tram journey through the backlots (many previous and current active sets) that includes thrilling special effects like an attack by Jaws. The attached theme park features rides inspired by Universal Studios films (think: Revenge of the Mummy: The Ride, Jurassic Park: The Ride, etc.), while the newest addition to the park, Universal City Walk, is a bustling promenade lined with over-eager street performers and popular chain restaurants.

    WHY WE LIKE IT

Sure, it’s a little on the cheesy side–but it’s fun cheesy.

    WHAT WE WOULD CHANGE

The lines, the lines, the lines. Also, some of the rides are a little dated (though families with small children seem to like them).

    GOOD TO KNOW

Lines for the tours and rides can be long, but you can purchase the “Front of the Line Pass” which reduces or eliminates that problem. Also, if you’re more interested in the studio side of things, the “VIP Experience” gives a personalized six-hour movie making tour and “special treament” in the park. If you just can’t get enough of Universal Studios, book your tickets online–you’ll automatically get a second day of entrance to the park for free. Also, if you’re taking the metro to get here, try the free Universal Studios shuttle, which runs from the Universal City metro stop to the front gates of the park. If you’re driving, parking prices range from $10-15 depending on entry time.
