VIBE
SoHo’s ubiquitous lofts already have enough artsy cachet to win over any hipster’s heart, but The Mercer has taken things one step further, adding a coolly relaxed layer of luxury to the edgy industrialism of its red brick 19th century warehouse. The result is a pleasingly plush property that softens exposed brick and iron railings with neutral yet decadently comfortable beds and sofas, and that throbs with in-crowd antics (expect to run into more than one Hollywood insider during your stay) while managing to remain calmly laidback. The heart of the hotel is the happening lobby, where the stylish guests lounge on artfully worn leather sofas, tapping on MacBooks and sipping on cappuccinos and cocktails.

WHY WE LIKE IT
The Mercer has hit on the perfect combination of laidback and luxury. We dig how the service is flawless yet also cheerfully personable. The rooms are lovely too, with a great mix of original features and minimalist (yet ever-so-comfy) modern décor. And of course, there’s the fun scene in the lobby. This is a great spot for hip luxury travelers who want frolicking and pampering without the pomp.
AMENITY WE LOVE
The buzzy lobby, complete with delish food and drink (available 24 hours!), a funky complimentary lending library, and a fascinating crowd of beautiful people.
WHAT WE WOULD CHANGE
Room service can be a little slow. (Luckily, the snacks and soft drinks in the minibar are free, so there’s no danger of starvation while you wait.)
GOOD TO KNOW
Make sure you know the address before you arrive because there’s no signage for The Mercer, so it can be hard to spot from the street. The Mercer is the sister hotel to Hollywood’s Chateau Marmont. Despite its popularity with the young-and-fun crowd, The Mercer is a surprisingly good spot for families. Kid-friendly perks include complimentary cribs, a toy library, babysitting services, and games like Guitar Hero, Wii, and Xbox 360. Pets are allowed, and there’s a dog walking service. 24-hour concierge, CD/DVD library, packing/unpacking services, laundry service, and limo and chauffeur services are all available.
