Low ceilings keep the candlelight dancing, while the proximity of performers to the audience exaggerates the intimacy of the tiny space. Italian wines and fruity cocktails satisfy guests in any season, and a full menu caters to those hankering for a bite but wishing to avoid the full dinner-to-do in the trattoria next door. WHY WE LIKE IT

Candlelight, a rustic fireplace, jazz: it’s pure Village charm. We also appreciate that it hasn’t yet been “discovered” by the trendy crowd–pefect for enjoying the jazz sans scene.

WHAT WE WOULD CHANGE

Nothing we can think of, except perhaps for the teensy space (rubbing elbows with your neighbors makes for some awkward encounters).

GOOD TO KNOW

This spot is attached to restaurant La Lanterna di Vittorio, which offers the same menu in a much more traditional Italian restaurant setting. The lasagna and thin-crust pizza are two popular favorites, though guests in the bar usually stick to the extensive wine list for all of their indulging fancies. Jazz performances start at 8:00pm and 10:00pm on Sunday, at 8:30pm and 10:30pm on Monday through Thursday, and at 7:30pm, 9:00pm, 11:30pm, and 12:30am on Friday and Saturday.
