Getting past Sway’s velvet ropes can be a feat, but not as much as simply finding the place, given that it’s hidden behind a misleading neon sign reading “McGoverns Tavern”. Once inside, any assumptions based on the sign’s promised low-key pub atmosphere are instantly knocked aside by pumping DJ music and an exotic Moroccan vibe. While the front room bar and the oasis-like back room are slightly less energetic than the blazing dance floor, their plush North African décor and sultry lighting make them no less appealing.

WHAT WE WOULD WEAR

We’d go with a sexy nightclub number, be it a slinky black dressy or shimmery glam top, with killer heels and some dramatic makeup.

As annoying at it is to get through, a tough door does mean those inside are the hot and hip of Manhattan’s party scene. And the gorgeous Moroccan décor is so atmospheric you almost forget that you are in NYC.

WHAT WE WOULD CHANGE

The bouncers are notorious for being difficult to persuade.

GOOD TO KNOW

The door is the most difficult between 1:00am and 2:00am, as that’s when the crowds show. The best time for a full-on good time is after 1:00am, though the place is open earlier for those interested in a more pared-down party.
