    VIBE

Just beyond the luminous strait of Times Square sits Aureole, a contemporary two-venue eatery situated on the street level of the Bank of America tower, worlds away from its original townhouse setting on the Upper East Side. Its prim-and-proper dining room is accented with neutral colors, muted lighting, subtle hip-retro touches, and upscale finishes like a polished oak ceiling, brown banquettes, and textured fabric wall panels that make it both comfortable and relaxed. Floral bouquets line the tall windows to shield the afternoon sun rays that attempt to flood in. The more casual bar room, double the size of the dining area, is a geometric vision of silver steel and glass, where above hovers a spiral chandelier. With an inviting menu that earned a Michelin star for 2012, Aureole has managed to age well.

    WHY WE LIKE IT

It is conveniently close to Times Square, which makes it easy to stop in for a drink or a prix fixe lunch before braving the densely popular area. Aureole is also more affordable than Le Bernardin or Per Se, while still being Michelin-starred and of equal quality.

    WHAT WE WOULD CHANGE

    Nothing.

    GOOD TO KNOW

In addition to the wine displays, Aureole stores over 14,000 more bottles on site. Their website features an eWinebook, which allows diners to view all wines by vintage, price, and variety. The restaurant retains a strong commitment to farm produce, ensuring organic freshness. Menus differ between the dining and bar rooms, so check the website first if you have a distinct preference (note that the bar tends to be a bit more boisterous). Pre- and Post-Theater dinner menus are also available for the Broadway-bound, along with prix fixe lunch and dinner options. On Fridays and Saturdays, the restaurant’s bar remains open from 10:00pm-11:30 to serve food late night.
