    VIBE

The loyal patronage of SoHo’s fashionable, well-heeled folk has, since Dean & DeLuca’s founding in 1977, helped make this gourmet grocery a citywide (and now worldwide) phenomenon. As the original location, this warehouse-turned-marketplace is spacious and sparkling, with clean white walls and aisle upon aisle of quality meats, fruits, cheeses, chocolates, pastries, and kitchenware. Only the top bakeries and butchers offer their services here, ensuring that quality of food simply cannot be matched.

    CROWD

SoHo foodies, locals, tourists, and business folk out on a posh coffee break.

    WHY WE LIKE IT

It’s definitely not your everyday grocery store–it’s a foodie mecca. You can find anything your taste buds desire, from fully prepared meals to desserts, breads, coffee, flowers, and kitchenware. It is also quintessentially New York for its pricey but nonetheless top quality and perfectly packaged goods.

    WHAT WE WOULD CHANGE

It’s always packed with tourists and SoHo shoppers, making browsing frustrating at times (particularly weekends).

    GOOD TO KNOW

This location serves as a one-stop-shop for all kitchen needs, while other locations around Manhattan are more like cafés. Many of the items here are related to Italian cuisine, but other global cuisines are represented. All locations serve fantastic coffee.

    OTHER LOCATIONS

Six locations throughout Manhattan; Washington DC; California; North Carolina; Kansas; International

    CLOSEST COMPS

Citarella (New York); EAT (New York); Zabar’s (New York); Eataly - La Pizza & La Pasta (New York); Harrods Food Halls (London)
