    VIBE

Head chef Masatoshi Sugio’s innovative omakases of sushi and sashimi pair well with the sleek décor of this Upper West Side restaurant. The space is something of a sushi theater, where virtually every seat in the house has a view of the minimalist wood bar where the chefs work their magic. The stark setting makes it that much easier for diners to keep their focus on the delicious fish once they leave the sushi bar and arrive at the table.

    CROWD

Sushi fans, groups of friends, and well-heeled Upper West Siders.

    WHAT WE WOULD WEAR

    WHY WE LIKE IT

If you’re looking for a delicious sushi dinner on the Upper West Side, this is the place to go. We like the sleek, minimalist décor; it’s one of few restaurants in this neighborhood with such a modern vibe, especially among the sushi venues.

    WHAT WE WOULD CHANGE

While tasty, the prepared dishes from the kitchen are pretty standard Japanese fare. There’s nothing that’s really innovative or inspiring, which is surprising when compared to the delightful sushi.

    GOOD TO KNOW

Be warned: Sugio’s sushi omakase starts, for just ten pieces, at USD 65. Sushi is also available à la carte.
