    VIBE

Tiled floors, rickety tables covered with butcher paper, and distressed wood walls give this small, perpetually jammed restaurant a bit of rustic refinement, and the mirrors that line the otherwise bare walls help to disguise the limited floor space. As for the eats, this shabby-chic bistro draws on Anglo-American traditions, serving huge portions of classic brunch fare like spicy stewed chickpeas, Dutch pancakes, spaghetti a la carbonara, and eggs Benedict.

    CROWD

Dressed-down East Village locals and foodies who love a good brunch.

    WHAT WE WOULD WEAR

    WHY WE LIKE IT

Hooray for home cooking without having to break the bank! We love that spaghetti a la carbonara is on the brunch menu, and the pickled veggies that come with the Chicago Matchbox Bloody Mary are divine.

    WHAT WE WOULD CHANGE

The lines at brunch are less than ideal; be sure to arrive right as they open or else you may have to wait half an hour or so.

    GOOD TO KNOW

Contrary to popular belief, the name Prune comes from the owner’s childhood nickname, not the fruit. Though you can dine here for lunch and dinner, Prune specializes in brunch (and their menu shows it). There are also 10 types of Bloody Mary’s to choose from, a plus if that’s something you’re into.
