Few can resist the whimsical charms of this nearly 150-year-old landmark toy store. From the two toy-soldier doormen stationed outside, to the giant piano (yes, that would be the same one you saw in Big…), to getting lost in the (limited-edition) world of Playmobil, FAO Schwarz pulls even the gruffest grown-ups into Never-Never Land. With a kid-heavy clientele and an unrivaled selection of toys, the atmosphere is understandably gleeful. Be warned, though, that things can turn nasty during the holidays, when long lines and big crowds make for short tempers.

It's a toy store with everything you could want (epic Lego section, hard-to-find Nerd rope candy, giant stuffed toys, you get the idea). What's not to love?

The store sells natural, allergy friendly toys and bedding for those with health concerns, as well as a wide variety of eco-friendly toys from jump ropes to toy trucks. If you’ve got time, grab a snack at the in-store sweet shop.
