Henri Bendel has been wooing the in-crowd with must-have accessories and clothing since the 1890s–but that doesn’t mean it’s a fashion relic. We like stocking up on cashmere at sale time and picking up hair accessories from the excellent selection of pieces. (And if you really want to display those hair accessories to their best effect, head to the fourth floor Frédéric Fekkai salon for a flirty cut.)

GOOD TO KNOW

The building itself is one of the finest examples of historical architecture in New York City. Over a hundred years old, it was originally three 19th century townhouses, and today it still features classic details like Lalique glass windows. (The space is so impressive that it inspired Jackie O. herself to petition the city for the shop’s landmark status.) Henri Bendel hosts a series of fashion and design events throughout the year including trunk shoes and even a casting call for aspiring designers.
