    VIBE

Situated in an airy, Asian-inflected space on the sky-high lobby level of the Mandarin Oriental New York, the refined Lobby Lounge is an ideal spot to unwind over cocktails. The abbreviated Asian-American menu, which features signature swigs like the Mandarin Sunset, also offers a range of bites for the snack-seeking, as well as a prix fixe option for afternoon tea. Patrons linger over the undeniably breathtaking views of Central Park and the New York City skyline, as seen through a dramatic wall of windows. Though views are fabulous from day to night, sunset hours are particularly exhilarating, when, from 35 floors above, the color of the sky deepens to darkness and transforms Manhattan into a blackened landscape sprinkled with glowing office windows and twinkling headlights.

    WHAT WE WOULD WEAR

Keep it smart casual with a flattering neutral blouse, a sleek skirt, heels, and a fancy clutch.

    CROWD

A largely business bunch during the day. Later on, tailored, upscale hotel guests and starry-eyed couples trickle in.

    WHY WE LIKE IT

The sky-high panoramic views are just beautiful, especially if you’re lucky or savvy enough to drink or dine here during sunset.

    WHAT WE WOULD CHANGE

This is, in the end, a hotel bar, and it can feel a bit like a hotel bar, with business and tourist types filling the space. We prefer to take our cocktails in a crowd with a bit more pizzazz.

    GOOD TO KNOW

The lobby level is located on the 35th floor of the hotel, which can be reached by express elevator. Afternoon tea service runs daily from 2:30pm-4:30pm; for USD 38, guests are served an array of posh nibbles as well as tea. Weddings and events can close the space down, so be sure to call ahead if you are making a stop here the focal point of your night.
