    VIBE

Dorothy, we are not at Eataly anymore. In stark contrast with Batali’s frenzied Italian market, or even with his beloved, cozy Babbo, Del Posto is a lofty, elegant, and opulent space emphasizing classic grandeur. Think imposing columns, a dramatic staircase, crisp linens, amazingly high ceilings, and formally dressed wait staff. The prix fixe (choose your selections), or tasting menu (the selections are made for you) are geared towards foodies and special occasioners looking to splurge on the famous pasta, meat, and fish selections.

    CROWD

A dressy mix of special occasion couples, expense accounters, and Mario Batali fans

    WHAT WE WOULD WEAR

A chic, understated little black dress. Most men wear jackets, but they are not required.

    WHY WE LIKE IT

The excellent food and the dramatic surroundings. And because (at least) five courses are expected of diners at dinnertime, there is no guilt in enjoying a true feast! At USD 29, the three course prix fixe lunch is a great deal.

    WHAT WE WOULD CHANGE

Our “Why We Like It” has a downside too: with a five course prix fixe and seven course tasting menu, you really are committing to eating a lot here. If you’d prefer a lighter meal or more intimate space, Del Posto is not the best choice for you.

    GOOD TO KNOW

There are two floors, the main dining room downstairs and the upstairs balcony with seating overlooking the main room. We like to sit downstairs, but it’s a matter of preference. (If you feel strongly about sitting upstairs or down, be sure to voice this when reserving). The Tenth Avenue location is a bit of a trek from the nearest subway stop; since (presumably) you will be dressed to impress, we’d recommend taking a taxi to avoid the walk.
