    VIBE

One of the most authentic tapas bars in New York, El Quinto Pino truly embraces the art of Spanish noshing. A mere 16 stools line the counters and bar, making standing room the standard–but, though it’s lacking in square footage, no one can deny that this tiny restaurant skimps on flavor. Tiny plates of regional flavors (think white anchovies, wasabi-infused uni panini, and puffed bacon bits) merely satisfy cravings, not stomachs, while smartly selected Spanish wines (by the glass) and creative frozen cocktails add a bit of flirty fun to the nosh options. Take an hour to explore their nibbles and bites before heading to dinner elsewhere, or make an adventurous night of it and experiment your way through the blackboard of offerings.

    CROWD

Mostly Chelsea neighborhood types–couples, singles, and family pairs.

    WHAT WE WOULD WEAR

Fit with the stylish Chelsea crowd and put together a fashionably casual outfit: a chic belted tunic, leggings, boots, and a piece of statement jewelry.

    WHY WE LIKE IT

They keep to the Spanish tradition of serving great wine with authentic and small-enough-to-tease dishes. We love the intimacy, the flirtatious vibes of both atmosphere and staff, and the chance to experiment with the more creative small plates.

    WHAT WE WOULD CHANGE

Though we love the tapas-style stools and limited counter space, having to eat standing up can be frustrating and awkward.

    GOOD TO KNOW

For those in the know, this restaurant is owned by the same people behind the restaurant Tía Pol (also located in Chelsea). The specialty frozen cocktails here are wonderful–we suggest ordering the Pomada (gin lemonade). If you’re eating, though, the wine definitely pairs better with the fare. For the best seats in the house, opt for the stools near the chalkboard menu or at the bar.
