VIBE
This madly popular gastropub is every bit the traditional British hangout–dark, loud, quirky (pig paraphernalia clogs every wall), and packed to the brim with convivial drink swilling friends. Every bit British, that is…save for its Italian-accented menu. Waits are inescapable (unless you go for a weekday lunch), but then, they just provide a welcome excuse to take a seat at the always-lively bar. Locals swear by the gnudi and the burger with shoestring fries; we love the devilled eggs.
CROWD
Anyone looking for a good time, from local West Villagers to tourists, European expats, bar hoppers, and out-of-towners.
WHAT WE WOULD WEAR
Go casual with a bit of flair; try a dark shirt with a black cardigan or blazer, designer jeans, flats, and an easy up-do.
GO HERE WITH
A friend; significant other; a date; a drinking buddy (but don’t come with a large group, as it will just increase your wait time)
WHY WE LIKE IT
The food here is fantastic (it does have a Michelin star, after all). Don’t just come for drinks!
WHAT WE WOULD CHANGE
Unless you’re showing up for lunch (or anytime before 5:00pm), waits are inevitable (and have been known, on a regular basis, to exceed two hours).
GOOD TO KNOW
The bar scene here is rockin’ (if over crowded) and makes for a good time while you wait out the line. The team behind The Spotted Pig is also involved with The Breslin in the trendy Ace Hotel.
