VIBE
Not your average crab shack. The crisp white linens, thick patterned carpets, and gold lamé drapes in the clubby dining room dress it up a bit, and the pricey seafood fare backs that up. (That said, given that this is Palm Beach, it’s billed as “casual.”) Thanks to its water views (surprisingly, these are a rarity in this town), Charley’s Crab remains a popular local institution; if you really want to have the full experience, pick yourself a lobster from the bubbling tanks near the entrance.
CROWD
Distinguished. There are suits around at lunch, and a bevy of graying, well-coiffed couples in the evening. Thanks to the water views, it’s also a popular tourist destination.
WHAT WE WOULD WEAR
Conservatively upscale casual. Try an elegant day dress paired with a light wrap or sweater (the A/C was blasting when we were here).

WHY WE LIKE IT
It’s a local classic. The scene may be a bit stuffier (boring?) than we’re into, but the decent seafood offsets that.
WHAT WE WOULD CHANGE
For all the hype about the views, the ocean is actually across the street, so the vistas are only so-so. Also, the service runs hot and cold.
GOOD TO KNOW
Children’s menu available. Free valet parking.
