VIBE
Adjacent to the prestigious Worth Avenue and only a few blocks away from the beach, this charming West Indies-inspired boutique hotel is a restored landmark and has become a mainstay for winter-escaping regulars. The accommodations are well appointed, from the small-ish guestrooms (each with lovely Egyptian cotton linens and European duvets) to the nearby Casa Manana, a 1928 mansion that has been converted into seven private villas. Although upscale, the atmosphere here remains friendly and personable–travelers have been known to stay not just weeks but months out of the year here in true comfort.

WHY WE LIKE IT
We love the combination of peaceful surrounds in the hotel and the hubbub of Worth Avenue just down the street. The Colony is significantly more relaxed than many of the area’s other, more formal resorts–great when we’re looking to kick back away from the crowds and the pomp of other properties.
AMENITY WE LOVE
The small pool, framed by a lovely garden and complemented by a poolside restaurant, is a cute touch and sets the scene for some great conversation and sunbathing. We also love the rental bikes for zipping about town.
WHAT WE WOULD CHANGE
While the hotel offers beach kits, there is no on-property private beach, which means you will not be sitting on the sand in as much comfort or style as you might at some of the beachfront hotels in town.
GOOD TO KNOW
A recent USD 12 million renewal has restored The Colony to the landmark hotel it is today. Those looking to splash out can consider booking one of their private villas, which come equipped with full kitchens and private pool areas.
