    VIBE

This reasonably priced Mexican eatery and bar at the heart of Clematis Street has more tequila choices (we’re talking 225+) than anywhere else in the state. By day and early evening, an eclectic crowd of all ages and assortments–drawn by the comfortable, atmospheric interiors (think exposed brick and cultural flourishes like vintage posters and Mexican masks)–gorge on the delicious beverages and simple yet solid fare. By nightfall, the scene turns electric as barflies and beauties from “the Beach” emerge to indulge in margaritas, sangria, and flights of tequila-flavored fancy.

    WHAT WE WOULD WEAR

In this atmosphere of tequila-fueled chaos, keep it casual with a fun top, comfy denim, funky flats, and some flashy bangles.

    CROWD

A tightly packed, mostly bar-crawling set of the hip and beautiful, along with the expected mix of tourists and happy hour haunters.

    WHY WE LIKE IT

Roccos' own sour mix adds that extra oomph to those potent margaritas–we declare them a must-try for any newcomer. Needless to say, imbibing at this kicking spot is sure to guarantee a good night.

    WHAT WE WOULD CHANGE

Unlike most other Mexican joints, you have to pay for the staple chips and salsa. Tables fill up for those with reservations for dinner, so if you are just coming to the bar, expect to spend the evening de pie.

    GOOD TO KNOW

If snacking or dining, we recommend upgrading your chips and salsa order, for USD 12, to include the famed tableside guacamole–we loved it so much we ordered seconds! On many Friday and Saturday nights, Rocco himself performs his famous “Tequila Dance” atop the bar. And if a crazy bar’s not your thing, the sidewalk patio offers a fabulous respite from the suffocating crowds. If you are going to dine (or need to sit), make reservations. A kid's menu is available.
