VIBE
Elegant clubby bar that enjoys a privileged place in Parisian lore thanks to the fact that Oscar Wilde lived his last days (and even breathed his last breath) on the property. Photos of Wilde and antique editions of his work are discreetly dotted around the antique-laden space, and the comfortable velvet sofas and armchairs (perfectly situated under warmly glowing lamps) do indeed seem an ideal place to seek literary inspiration. That said, the chic, celeb-sprinkled clientele (everyone from Salvador Dalí to Frank Sinatra to Elizabeth Taylor has at one time hung out here, and modern day stars follow their lead) often seems more immersed in conversation than communing with literary spirits. Of course, their desire to chat their hearts out is perhaps unsurprising given Le Bar’s legendary discretion–nothing makes it beyond the thick, muffling carpets or heavy oak doors. No wonder flamboyant Wilde found it so appealing…
WHAT WE WOULD WEAR
Elegant yet relaxed—black pants, designer flats, and a chic scarf.

CROWD
A sleek mix of hotel guests, upper crust locals, and film stars looking to keep a low profile.
WHY WE LIKE IT
Classic, understated Parisian elegance. We’re always happy to chill in one of the plush chairs with a stiff drink and eavesdrop and people-watch the evening away.
WHAT WE WOULD CHANGE
Can get crowded when the diners from the adjacent restaurant spill in after their meals.
GOOD TO KNOW
You can order light bites from the Michelin-starred restaurant next door.
