    VIBE

Like something you might have encountered on the Silk Road a century ago, this quaint hookah bar comes complete with cluttered displays of Asian curios, low-lying wood tables, a sand-swept façade with hand-lettered Arabic signs, and (of course) piles of oriental carpets. The cave-like interiors (seriously, we’re talking real limestone caves) are dark and romantic, while the outdoor terrace is more laidback–a perfect spot for lounging with a hookah and a group of friends.

    WHAT WE WOULD WEAR

It’s really relaxed; we’d go with jeans, flats, and a cute cardi.

    CROWD

In-the-know locals looking to chill out.

    WHY WE LIKE IT

When we’re in the Bastille neighborhood, this is a great choice for a relaxed evening out, especially if we can snag a spot on the terrace. (And we dig the choice of hookah flavors–they’ve got melon, strawberry, cherry, and banana.)

    WHAT WE WOULD CHANGE

The service channels the laidback Egyptian vibe and is REALLY slow–you may need to ask several times for even the basics, like glasses, cutlery, the bill, etc.

    GOOD TO KNOW

There’s a nightly happy hour until 9:00pm. The attached restaurant specializes in hearty Moroccan fare like tajines and couscous, so don’t expect to be able to pick up light bar snacks. If you dig the vibe, check out their attached “Oriental Artisan” boutique that sells jewelry, ceramics, leatherwork, and spices imported from countries like Turkey and Egypt.
