    VIBE

This classy 1920s bistro in the posh Porte Maillot neighborhood draws a devoted crowd of locals with its timeless décor and by-the-book take on bistro fare. Original features like etched glass, brass fixtures, and elegant leather banquettes are paired with quintessentially Parisian touches like cheerfully harried waiters and crisp linens to create a convivial, atmospheric vibe. The menu is straightforward and traditional–skip experimental specials for back-to-basics bistro eats.

    CROWD

An older mix of regulars and a handful of tourists wishing they were regulars.

    WHAT WE WOULD WEAR

Smart casual; we’d wear a Parisian-chic combo of skinny back pants, a stylish cardi, and flats.

    WHY WE LIKE IT

We love the timeless bistro vibe–perfect spot if you want to connect with the Paris of classic films. We also dig how it’s much less cramped than other historic eateries. (“Convivial” is fun, but “constantly bumping elbows with our neighbors” is just annoying.)

    WHAT WE WOULD CHANGE

The food is solid, but not knock-your-socks-off good.

    GOOD TO KNOW

Unlike many fashionable spots in Paris, Chez Georges is open on Sunday nights–definitely handy if you’re stuck for a weekend meal. If possible, avoid sitting upstairs as that’s where they hide the poorly dressed tourists. Finally, don’t confuse this Chez Georges with the restaurant of the same name in the 2nd Arr., or with the trendier restaurant Georges on the top floor of the Centre Pompidou.
