VIBE
If the standoffish grays of Paris’s historic streets get you down, bebop over to this boisterous Provençal joint next to Place des Vosges, where the sun-drenched south of France is channeled via cheerful lemon yellow décor, gregarious service, and simple catch-of-the-day fare. The handwritten menu offers up hearty, fresh fare (a combo that translates into ultra-delish), and the rustic surrounds (no starched linens or complicated sets of silverware are to be found on these cute wood tables) are equally pared down.
CROWD
A fun and lively mix of 20- and 30-somethings, though it’s now starting to catch the eye of savvy travelers, too.
WHAT WE WOULD WEAR
We’d run with the décor and wear something bright and casual.

WHY WE LIKE IT
A great lunch spot, especially if we can snag a seat on the plant-laden terrace. (Although on rainy days we’re happy to settle for a cozy banquette under one of the rosy lamps.) Besides the pick-me-up ambiance, we totally dig the generous portions–they make Chez Janou meals a very good value for money. (On that front, we particularly recommend ordering the chocolate mousse, which is served family style in an oh-so-generously sized bowl.)
WHAT WE WOULD CHANGE
At dinner, there’s always a wait, even if you already have a reservation. Also, when it’s crowded, the service can get snippy, especially with those waiting for a table.
GOOD TO KNOW
The terrace is covered and heated in the winter, so you can enjoy it year-round. If you’re heading inside, try to get a seat in the back, because the front tends to be where all of the new arrivals congregate as they wait for their tables. Dogs allowed.
