    VIBE

Local institution famed for its clay pot chicken soup, which is lovingly stewed for over 12 hours in a rich broth seasoned with tofu, mushrooms, and veggies. The space is nice enough–classic Chinese, with calligraphy scrolls, dark wood furniture, and red paper lanterns–but easily overlookable, especially with those captivating pots of soup stealing the show. Though this is pretty much a one-dish joint, the Sichuan-style side dishes are worth trying.

    CROWD

A mix of foodies (for that tender, juicy chicken) and families (for sharing the large portions).

    WHAT WE WOULD WEAR

Casual; we’d wear something simple like a tunic, leggings, and flats.

    WHY WE LIKE IT

Talk about chicken soup for the soul. The tender meat falls right off the bone, and the slow-cooked broth is divine–definitely an uplifting dining experience. The portions are huge (there’s an entire chicken in each pot), so we prefer to come with a group for sharing a pot of chicken soup and a few side dishes.

    WHAT WE WOULD CHANGE

If you’re eating alone, the portion sizes (an entire chicken!) are a little overwhelming. (When flying solo, you might want to try trendier sister restaurant Ji Wo, which offers half- and quarter-chicken pots.)

    GOOD TO KNOW

The menu is Chinese only, but there are helpful pictures. Don’t worry: pointing to your desired dish is not uncommon. To ensure your clay pot dish is ready when you are, call in your order 24 hours in advance. (English-speaking staff are available.)
