This lush botanical garden dating from the 1890s offers 15 verdant hectares packed with 1,500 plant species, a gorgeous lotus pond, themed formal gardens, several historic buildings, and flocks of rare birds. The National Museum of History is located on the same campus.

The gardens are really lovely–they make a great spot for taking a break from the hustle of the city.

The gardens are on the smaller side. And English-language tours would be a welcome addition.

Two-hour Chinese-language tours are available at 9:00am and 2:00pm and start from the HePing West Road entrance of the Taipei Botanical Garden.
