    VIBE

The utilitarian exterior of this 1940s building on Dupont Circle isn’t much to look at, but man do things get stylish when you walk through the door. From the slick, gleaming lobby to the contemporary room décor, it’s clear that the recent USD 52 million refurbishment was executed by a savvy team with an eye for detail and fashion. The vibe is young and hip (the concierge uses an iPad), and the onsite French restaurant and cocktail bar are always buzzing with a cool, trendy crowd. If you prefer a bit more swank with your style, check out Level Nine, a high-end hotel-within-the-hotel, which offers luxe suites, a private members club, and personalized service.

    WHY WE LIKE IT

The design and the crowd (especially in the bar and restaurant) are très chic, and the location (just off Dupont Circle) can’t be beat when we’re in town for sightseeing or partying. We’re also impressed with perks like heated bathroom tiles, iPod docking stations, and smart in-room décor, which make The Dupont Circle Hotel punch above its weight for boutiques in this price range. Also, almost all rooms offer interesting views of the city, which is definitely a perk when we’re here to scope things out on the tourist tip. It’s worth splashing out for Level Nine if you prefer a bit more pampering – you’ll get everything from private elevator access to private driver service to free eats throughout the day in the club lounge.

    AMENITY WE LOVE

Café Dupont and Bar Dupont – when we're in the mood to rub elbows with hip hobnobbers. Great for kicking off a lively evening of Dupont Circle nightlife.

    WHAT WE WOULD CHANGE

Some rooms don’t have bathroom doors. A trendy design choice, sure, but it can be annoying, depending on your travel partner. Also, service runs hot and cold – it’s definitely not at the standard of the highest-end spots around town.

    GOOD TO KNOW

Free business center and 9,000 square feet of meeting space are available. Valet parking is USD 36/night. Level Nine, the exclusive floor within The Dupont Hotel, is a collection of 15 suites with additional luxury amenities, a private access elevator, and Level Nine lounge with complimentary food and beverages throughout the day.
