    VIBE

This neighborhood slowly made a turnaround from its devastated state after the 1968 riots and is now quickly becoming one of the liveliest scenes in DC. Edgy music venues and hip bars have made H Street a happening place in recent years. And the range of options will please any nighttime thrill seeker. There are your beer-swilling hangouts, like the Rock & Roll Hotel and The Queen Vic; dark and mysterious places like Red Palace and the Sahra hookah lounge; and one-of-a-kind hotspots like Church & State, H Street Country Club, and Atlas Arcade.

    WHAT WE WOULD WEAR

Something casual chic — maybe wedges, dark jeans, and a sexy top.

    CROWD

It’s a mix of local regulars, tourists, and young partiers.

    WHY WE LIKE IT

H Street has a great combination of bars to keep us happy throughout the course of a night on the town. We have no trouble finding a quieter joint (like Church & State) to start out the evening with carefully crafted cocktails before we move onto someplace rowdier to dance, play games (see H Street Country Club), or go to a concert (Rock & Roll Hotel).

    WHAT WE WOULD CHANGE

We wish there was a metro stop that would drop us right in the middle of the action; the surrounding areas are still quite a bit dodgy!

    GOOD TO KNOW

H Street has been redeveloping over the past decade and is still in the process of recovery after remaining mostly abandoned after the 1968 riots. While the closest metro stop at a 20+ minute walk away is Union Station and cabs can sometimes be hard to find at night, there is also the convenient X2 bus that runs from McPherson Square to the Minnesota Avenue metro.
