    VIBE

One of DC’s most venerable bars, this classic spot has been serving Washington politicos since the age of Lincoln. Just off the lobby of the historic Willard InterContinental hotel, Beltway insiders kibitz and close deals as they gather 'round (literally − the circular bar is in the center of the room) Round Robin for cocktails or order from Scotch Bar's impressive scotch menu (featuring everything from rare labels to 100-year-old tipples).

    WHAT WE WOULD WEAR

Business formal or business casual, like tailored black pants, a crisp white shirt, and classic heels

    CROWD

    WHY WE LIKE IT

The history. The bar has hosted writers such as Mark Twain, Charles Dickens, Ernest Hemingway, and Walt Whitman, and it’s said that the term “lobbying” was born here during the presidency of Ulysses S. Grant because so many people asked him for favors.

    WHAT WE WOULD CHANGE

It feels just a bit tired. It’s a great stop for the history and the whiskey, but we prefer to finish off our night elsewhere.

    GOOD TO KNOW

The cocktails are equally as choice as the pride-and-joy scotches. But if you’re a beer drinker, be warned: they only serve bottles.
