Old Ebbitt Grill in Washington, DC is a historic American fare restaurant that's popular with DC lobbyists, lawyers, and political bigwigs

    VIBE

Clubby DC dining at its best. Just steps away from the White House, this historic Washington restaurant has been serving lobbyists, lawyers, and their staffs since 1865. Leather banquettes and dark wood furnishings set the scene, and American classics like crab cakes, Maine lobster salad, and strip steak fill the menu. Towards the end of the day, the bar scene starts buzzing with the after-work crowd who comes for the history, the location, and the boisterous happy hour.

    CROWD

Old-money politicians, Hill workers on their lunch breaks, and curious tourists.

    WHAT WE WOULD WEAR

They say the dress code is “casual,” but we’d still go with something classic like black pants, flats, and a crisp top.

    WHY WE LIKE IT

All the sneaky nooks and crannies. There are four bars scattered throughout the restaurant where you can bring your party to imbibe before your meal. We also dig happy hour when everything from the raw bar is half off.

    WHAT WE WOULD CHANGE

The menu could use some newer items, though the old standards are admittedly done pretty well.
