    VIBE

A refined bistro serving updated takes on such Southern specialties as shrimp and grits, fried chicken, and frogmore stew. The menu (which changes seasonally) may be full of comfort food staples, but the atmosphere is classic DC elegance: dishes are elegantly plated on white china, and the décor of crisp linens, cream-colored walls, and contemporary furnishings provides a modern backdrop to the down-home fare.

    WHY WE LIKE IT

It seems nowadays that every other restaurant is doing “inventive classics,” but here that term isn't just lip service−the dishes truly deliver on the delicious promise of novelty and familiarity.

    WHAT WE WOULD CHANGE

    Not much.

    GOOD TO KNOW

Sister restaurant Bistro Bis is another Purple favorite for dressed-up power dining in DC. Baked Vidalia onion, the restaurant’s namesake dish, is quite popular and is available seasonally. An excellent prix-fixe lunch is offered on Monday through Friday, and a happy hour featuring small plates and specialty cocktails crafted with Southern classic sodas (think Frostie Root Beer, RC Cola, and Bleinheim Ginger Ale) happens Monday through Friday from 5:00pm-7:00pm.
