A bright, open museum that celebrates the history of flight. With its soaring ceilings, glossy walls, and enormous windows, the National Air and Space Museum creates the perfect “airy” home for the iconic machines and artifacts it holds. But if you're not a diehard aviation aficionado, don't worry: there's way more to do than just geek out on machinery. Inside you’ll find stories of famous pilots, a World War II retrospective, flight simulators, Cold War relics, space and NASA exhibits, and a very sleek IMAX theater and planetarium.

WHY WE LIKE IT
While most museums focus on replicas and reenactments, here you can stroll right up to the Spirit of St. Louis, Apollo 11, and Sputnik 1.
WHAT WE WOULD CHANGE
GOOD TO KNOW
During the Cherry Blossom Festival in April, pick up a kite in the gift shop and join the crowds of families and couples on the mall who will be sending all types of gadgets and gizmos into the air.
