    VIBE

In typical Bliss fashion, this oh-so hip spa in the fashionable W Hotel caters to the in-crowd with trendy treatments, mod lounges and treatment rooms, and funky perks like a (mini) brownie buffet. Although the facilities are posh, don’t expect the stuffiness which usually goes along with that–the treatments have fun tongue-in-cheek names (like Hangover Herbie, the Betweeny Wax, and the Hot Foot Pedicure), and the facilities are very funky (in a pampering way). One nod to tradition though: girls and boys not only have separate locker rooms, but they’ve also got separate lounges.

    WHY WE LIKE IT

A refreshing change from the rather formal Washington spa scene–we love the hip, friendly vibes. The waxing services are particularly good (relatively painless!), though you really can’t go wrong with any of the treatments. (And we totally dig the lavish spread of Bliss product samples in the locker rooms too.) A day at the spa followed by evening cocktails at the posh POV Lounge on the hotel’s rooftop makes for a fabulous day out.

    WHAT WE WOULD CHANGE

The Bliss appointment book fills up quickly, so you need to book well in advance (though those staying at the W Hotel have more leeway since they get priority booking). Also, the locker rooms are a little small, and the signature upbeat music makes it a bit tough to relax during a massage.

    GOOD TO KNOW

W Hotel guests get priority reservations and in-room Bliss amenities, and they can book in-room spa treatments as well. Clients are asked to arrive 20 minutes before treatments. You must be over 16 to get a treatment (children 12-16 can receive nail treatments with an adult present), and guests under 18 need a signed guardian consent form. 24-hour notice required for cancellation or you will be charged in full. Appointments can be booked online through the Bliss website.
